Peninsula Living: San Carlos - "Feed the Pail; Feed the Planet"

These days we're all looking for ways to be more Green, in our homes and in everyday living.

Bamboo flooring is mainstream; recycled materials come to life in remodeled kitchens; we think twice before clicking the "print" button.

The City of San Carlos is taking seriously the need to live more gently on our planet. Last spring the City, through the south Bayside Waste Management Authority, launched its food scraps campaign to residents of single-family homes.

Recycle Bucket for food scraps

The "Feed the Pail, Feed the Planet" campaign, promoted the benefits of adding household food scraps to yard waste recycling, creating compost which is offered back to residents for use in their gardens. Through this program, residents are now able to place food scraps suchs as fruit, vegetables, meat, pizza boxes and food soiled paper products in the yard trimmings cart, which is collected weekly.

This LOOK design agency just earned a 2009 Davey Gold Award for playing a major role in the program's quick adoption rate.

One more reason this is a great place to live!

--- Come for a visit; Stay for a lifetime!
