'Tis the season for winter storms, and they are here--torrential rains in Oregon, mud slides in southern California, beach erosion along the Pacific Coast. Even San Francisco, San Mateo County and the Silicon Valley have been pelted with heavy rain and hail in recent days.
So, let's refresh our memories about emergency supplies we should have at hand:
- bottled water - a 7-day supply of 1 gallon/person per day
- food - a 7-day supply of food for all members of your household, including pets
- manual can opener for those cans of pre-cooked food
- flashlights, headlamps, and batteries
- first-aid kit
- tarps, rain gear and warm clothing
- cash on hand - ATMs might not be working
- gasoline in you car
- standard phone and/or cell phone - cordless phones may not work during a power outage
One last tip: keep a pair of shoes under the bed, near the edge, so they are easily found in the dark
