Helping Seniors Sell Their Long-time Home

Maybe you are a Senior, thinking about selling your home of many years here in San Mateo County or the Silicon Valley;
Perhaps you are a Realtor, advising and helping such Seniors;
Or maybe you have parents facing that stage in life;

book, Moving in the Right Direction

A great place to get started is to read the little book, Moving in the Right Direction: The Senior's Guide to Moving and Downsizing written by Bruce Nemovitz.

This book starts by acknowledging the sometimes overwhelming feeling of anxiety leaving a treasured home can bring, and proceeds to outline the benefits that can be obtained with a new lifestyle better suited for today. It goes on to offer ways to make it happen, and the people you'll want on your team.

When I deal with Seniors, I almost always give them a copy of the book--it opens the way to great dialog and finding solutions to their concerns, and helps us reach a good outcome for them.

Take a look! For more information, give me a call or drop me a line.

What a great way to help Seniors take that first step by giving them a book!

Lottie - seniors making the transition from home ownership often have a hard time in letting go and downsizing to fit what they require into their new seniors only building with adequate but not generous room sizes and quantities.

Hi Phil - I've gotten many thanks for giving out a copy of the book. Just knowing their feelings are shared by others is a huge relieft.

Skip, people do seem to find the book helpful, which makes me feel good.

Kathy, downsizing is often very hard, whether moving into a condo or a Senior community. This book gives some practical ideas on how to get the process started, and how to feel OK about it.

Thanks for the tip, Lottie.  I made a note of the title.  I wish I had a copy when my mother-in-law sold her home in AZ and moved to assisted living.

Hi Marge, it's a great little book. Hope you get a chance to read through it. If you work with Seniors much, you'll probably want to get a couple copies to share.

Trey, I'm sure you're great with Seniors. I should have put in an Amazon link to make it easy to buy the book, but I hate to ignore the local bookstores.

Another good book for moving seniors is entitled Moving Your Aging Parents by Nancy Wesson. I recently attended a training Nancy conducted and it was extremely informative.

Hi Lottie,

Thanks for the heads up on this book, as a SRES I too work with a lot of seniors myself. I've created a senior guide on my senior site for them, yet I'm sure there's a lot more in this book.
