House keys ready for my 1st time home buyers in the Silicon Valley, CA

Today is one of those delightful days--it's almost time to hand the house keys over to first-time home buyers.

1st time home buyers' house, Silicon Valley, CATwo years ago there would have been no way, on their budget, for them to have purchased a single-family home--they definitely would have been looking at a condo or possibly a townhouse. Ours is a high-cost area, and $500,000 or so doesn't go far in the housing market. Today, with about a 14% decrease in entry level home prices, we were able to get them into a lovely 3-bedroom, 2-bath home in the heart of Silicon Valley, with a family room, updated kitchen, and their own yard. The FHA loan has funded, client funds are in, and we're set to do a walk-through tomorrow and close on Thursday.

I took great joy this afternoon putting together this gift basket. In addition to a couple of plants, the Sunset Western Garden Book (our gardening "bible" here on the West Coast), a trowel, a hand rake and gardening gloves, I included a gift card to Home Depot, where I'm certain they'll be spending many a Saturday morning, making their home just the way they want it.

It has been a blast putting this together with this particular client in mind. And it will be pure joy to hand them their keys on Thursday afternoon!

Lottie:  Maybe it's the Dad in me, but I so agree with you ... there's nothing like facilitating the purchase of a home for a first-time buyer.  You're wonderful for putting together such a thoughtful and useful gift.  They will get to know the aisles of Home Depot well, won't they!!

Gene, this transaction has given me a huge amount of pleasure, from start to finish. It's always satisfying to help a client be successful, but I do have a soft spot for first-time buyers. It's such an exciting step in their lives.

Barbara, this house sold for around $600,000 2 years ago. Fortunately, it was not a short-sale, and the seller is moving up to a larger home, so it was a perfect transaction.

Hi Michael - yes, the buyers are tickled. I hope I can get a picture of them with their keys in hand!

Lottie, I am so with you regarding the pleasure derived from helping first-time home buyers.  I know they will love the gift basket and other goodies almost as much as they appreciated your help.

Hi Lottie, how awesome for those kids that they get to skip the condo, townhouse route and go right into a single family lifestyle!  What I live best is that you took the time to put beverages in the fridge and made up a nice welcome basket. Not many Realtors go the extra mile to add that personal touch. That makes you a special lady. I'm sure they will be thrilled to refer friends and family to you in the future.

Hi Mary Kay - this is one of those feel-good transactions for everyone.

Peggy, It's fun to add those special touches as a surprise for people. It's easy to think of cool things for buyers; harder for re-locating sellers.

Hi Lee and Pamela - it was at least as much fun for me to plan my welcome as it will be for them this afternoon when they discover it.

Hi Liz, putting together just the right gift for each particular client is a lot of fun. This was an easy one to know what to do. And it's fun to have a surprise waiting for them in the refrigerator, too.

How lucky your clients are to have you as their agent! Wow, I remember when we bought our first house out in Davis and we picked up our own Sunset "bible" - that is one heck of a gardening book. We still love it and use it all the time. And nothing makes me happier than seeing a first time buyer get into a (nice) home in the South Bay (my original home) ;-)

Cari, I remember my first Sunset Garden Book, too. I used to pour over it by the hour, imagining all the gorgeous transformations I would make in my garden. And I'm with you about first-time buyers.

So cute and fresh!  The gift is perfect from the looks of the house, and it is easy to construct a story in your head with visuals of twirling in the garden, being scooped off your feet and carried over the threshold...like a 50's intro to a movie...It's got to feel good for you to help them achieve their goal!

Hi Cheryl -- it was wonderful helping them get into a great first home. I like the imagery in you mind!
