Mystery Photo Contest: The Answer and the Winner
Last month's Mystery Photo Contest took us up to the skies with this photo and the following two questions:
1. What is the name of the mountain in the distance?
2. What is the name of the large, flat island to the left of the bridge?
I'm happy to announce that the winner of last month's Mystery Photo Contest is Rosalie Hughes, a newsletter reader who lives in San Carlos, California. She correctly identified the mountain in the distance as being Mount Diablo and the island to the left of the bridge as Treasure Island. Rosalie, I hope you enjoyed the gift cards to 2 of San Carlos' locally-owned businesses, My Breakfast House Cafe and Zest Bakery.
Just a reminder for those of you who aren't living here in San Mateo County or the Silicon Valley, this contest is for you, too! If you're the winner, your certificate will be a Starbucks card, or theater tickets. This is not just a local contest.
Another contest will be posted at the end of September, so check in then and play along.
--- Come for a visit; Stay for a lifetime!

Cool, Treasure Island. Sounds like a great place for the local pirates to hang out.
Wow! Congrats to Rosalie! I was totally lost. It looks beautiful though...
Hi Lottie,
Congratulations to Rosalie and I look forward to your next contest.
Steve
Hi Malcolm - until recent years when they closed the base, Treasure Island was used by the US Navy. More fun to think of pirates, Peter Pan, etc.
You can see Mount Diablo from El Dorado Hills, providing a breeze is clearing out the smog in Sacramento, which doesn't happen very often. Actually, I had no idea where Mount Diablo is.
Faina, thanks for checking in. I'm not likely to recognize aerial shots over New York City, unless it showed the Statue of Liberty. Now had the Golden Gate bridge been in this one, you'd probably have known it.
Steve, check back on September 30 -- I have a fun idea for next month's contest!
Beautiful pictures, your blog is a wonderful idea
Hi Elizabeth - I'm told that from Mt. Diablo, on a clear day, one can see more of the state of California than from any other point. I've seen the Sierras and on one memorable occasion could see the Sacramento River, turn into the Delta, and then enter into San Francisco Bay -- it was like looking down at the Bay Model.
Lottie..this gave ma a great idea! For my newsletter and a Post topic.I do do an e-newsletter and having a contest on it may cement readership!.
Scott, thanks! This picture was given to me to use by a wonderful woman, Blanche Shamoon. She took a lot of photos as her flight approached San Francisco airport.
Hi Joan -- yes, it's a nice way to reach people and build a relationship. Many of my paper newsletter readers are Seniors, and they take the time to read it and will call in with their answers. The electronic version gets sent out primarily to sphere and clients. I post it here and also on Facebook.
I've had responses from all these different tracks. Hope you play next month!
Lottie that's old home week for me. We lived in Danville in the foothills of Mt Diablo and had a beautiful view from our back yard.
A great view...
Joshua - glad you like the view. It's not always one gets a shot like this from the plane.
Hi Captain Bill! I knew you'd know this shot--I was hoping you'd see my earlier post and chime in. Next month, OK?
Congratulations to Rosalie................great photo Lottie.
Roger, I can't take credit for the photo--that goes to my friend, Blanche Shamoon. When I saw it I knew it would be fun to use here. Glad you liked it.
Lottie--thanks for the answers. I am so glad that I chose today to check back. A few years ago I ran contests for my past clients. It was a good lead generator and I would do it if I was still selling, but today I just teach on part time basis.
Lottie: I don't live anywhere near the places you feature ... but I always have to stop in to see the pics and learn something new. Just think this is a great and fun little marketing feature you've got going. Keep it up .. and hope it brings you much success!
Gene
Hi Mary -- I'm glad you checked in, too. I'll have a new contest up and running on or about September 30 -- take a look and send in your answer (or answers)
Gene, I've been telling you--you and your wife should come visit San Francisco -- you would have recognized this view!
Kidding aside, I'm trying to change the format of my mystery photos so that there are two questions each month; 1 that probably only local folks would knoww, and 1 that anyone might know or figure out.
So--please check out next month's contest and see if you have one of the answers. I should post it around September 30.
Lottie,
You have the most interesting contest contests going on..
Love the photos.
Lottie, What a great idea! I was born in Burlingame … and have lived in neighboring Santa Clara County ever since second grade. The photo is very familiar to me.
Judi, thanks! I have fun with this, and hopefully other people do, too! check back around Sept. 30 for next month's contest--I think you (and your sweet granddaughter, Josie) will enjoy it.
Hi Kathleen -- how fun! Check back again on September 30 -- you'll have a good chance of answering one or both of the questions.
No fair. How are we disadvantaged contestants supposed to win?
Jane--you really need to fly up for a 3-day weekend (or more!) Then you, too, would be familiar with this view! Michael O'Conner from southern California (Mira Loma) won one of the contests, so you can, too.
Kidding aside, Most months I try to find one question that many might know, regardless of where they live, so you do have a chance. Check back on September 30--I'm liking my thought for the next contest!
Ok Lottie I'm hoping to not miss the next contest.
Have a view of that very mountain from my backyard in Danville!!! One of the BIG reasons I bought this home 20 yrs. ago!!!!!!
Kathy - Mt. Diablo, indeed, is a BIG mountain, and Danville is a pretty town. In another 6 or so weeks the weather ought to allow one to get out hiking and enjoying it again. Sure gets hot there in the summer!
