Mystery Photo Contest: Tell Me About These Statues

Mystery Photo Contest: Tell Me About These Statues

This month’s Mystery Photo takes us to an indoor location in San Mateo County California, where you’ll find these appealing critters. Can you tell me:

1.    Who is the sculptor who created these and many other similar statues?
2.    Where are these particular ones located? (Remember, it’s an indoor location in San  Mateo County!)

Everyone who contacts me by October 11 with a correct answer will be entered into the drawing for a gift card to a local business. If you answer ONE question correctly, your name goes in once; if you know TWO answers, you’ll have two chances to win.

So, join in the fun and play along. Leave your answers below, or you can always call me at 650-592-0747 or email Lottie@LottieKendall.com

Have fun!

What a neat Mystery Photo Contest, Lottie! It looks like those photos were taken at a mall...my guess would be the Hillsdale Shopping Center. I haven't a clue as to the name of the sculptor. :)

Well, my sister used to live in San Mateo, and we always shopped at Hillsdale Mall, which if I remember correctly (because this was 20 years ago or so) the Hillsdale was build on a dumpsite, and had a cloth-like roof.  Maybe it has changed.  May be, I'm thinking of the wrong mall.

Scultor?  Bufano?

Hi Leilani and Jean -- thanks for playing the game. I've sent you each a message about your guesses.

Hi Lottie - I don't have a clue about who the sculptor is or location (though agree it looks like a mall) - but just had to comment  because they are such cute sculptures!

I know the mall and sculptor, and just emailed you.

My daughter lives out there (Mt View). I'll ask her...

I have no idea Lottie, but this is a fun contest and I can't wait to hear the answer.  The exhibit looks like it would be great to view.

Hi Nancy, they are cute sculptures, aren't they? When I post the answer I'll tell you more about them.

Michael, come back with your answer after you talk with your daughter. Do you come to Mt. View often to visit? Let me know when you do and we'll grab a cup of coffee or go take a walk or something.

Hi Lottie

I'm guessing Hillsdale Mall also. That comment by David about Mellarts brought back memories from when I was very young!

Phil, I missed the Mellarts slide -- didn't come to the Peninsula until 1971. Glad you played the game this month.

Hi Lottie,

Such a FUN post!  Yes, I too have passed those statues and walked through their location many a time and know the artist and location! There is  great video of the "mall of the future" on youtube that shows footage from back in the day.  I'll email it to you just in case you haven't seen it before.  Had fun playing!

Hi Michelle, thanks for playing, and thanks for sending the video clip -- sure was a different era, right? I'm glad you enjoyed this.
