Jump Start Thanksgiving in San Jose CA - Silicon Valley Turkey Trot

Tomorrow will be cold and sunny in San Jose, California -- around 40-degrees at race time.

tom turkey near Rodeo Beach Marin County CAWhile it's unlikely you'll see this fine fellow, you can start your Thanksgiving Day off on the right foot by joining friends, family and neighbors at the 6th annual Silicon Valley Turkey Trot. Choose an event to suit your taste -- a 5K walk, a 5K run, or a 10K run -- starting and ending at the Guadalupe River Park in downtown San Jose, California.

Second Harvest Food Bank - barrels to be filled

In addition to having fun and doing something healthy for yourself, you'll also be giving thanks by raising funds to help the Santa Clara Family Health Foundation, Second Harvest Food Bank and the Housing Trust of Santa Clara County. These charities provide families with "health, hope and a home." The Silicon Valley Turkey Trot has raised over $1 million dollars for these charities as of last year. So come, bring some canned goods to fill the barrels, and have a blast!

Sounds like it will be a fun - and worthwhile - event!!  Isn't there something like for every mile you run, you can have an extra piece of pumpkin pie??  LOL   Wishing you a wonderful Thanksgiving!!!!

Hi Lottie-I know a fellow ActiveRainer in TX who is participating in one of these tomorrow and running 8 miles. Are you going to participate in this one? Have a super Thanksgiving.

Lottie-- I remember doing mandatory annual "Turkey Trots" when I was in Junior High School. Unlike you, I have never been a strong runner, so the memories are not particularly happy. If I were there with you, I'd catch up with you later. And we'd still have fun!

Lottie ~  Excellent post on a wonderful event in your area.  I can't believe it is so much warmer over here on the Right Coast!!!  Expecting high 70's tomorrow.  Hope this goes well.  Happy Thanksgiving!!!

Lottie, This is a fun and worthwhile event. I’m not participating this year … however I have filled the barrel (so-to-speak) more than once throughout the year.

Hi Sharon, yes, I joined in the fun, but just did the 5K. It was clear, sunny and COLD! Lots of fun

Cece, you don't need a Turkey Trot -- you get to walk up and down Telegraph Hill, Nob Hill, Lyon Street Stairs, Vallejo Stairs, etc.

Tish, it was a great event. Cold, but sunny and not windy--perfect running weather actually.

Kathleen, this event is fantastic. 10,000 participated this year, raising over $140,000. Hope you had a great day.

Lottie - what a novel name for a timely fundraiser for several local worthy causes I am sure they will be able to put the cash raised to very good use as we approach the Christmas season.

Hi Kathy, thanks for stopping by. A number of communities have "Turkey Trots" either Thanksgiving morning or sometime during the weekend. I love the fund-raiser events--everyone is in good spirits, the bulk of one's registration fee goes to worthy causes, usually right in our own communities. $140,000 will go far to help the 3 charities.
