Pay it Forward--Silicon Valley Turkey Trot Far Exceeded my Earlier Report

Pay it Forward--Silicon Valley Turkey Trot Far Exceeded my Earlier Report

This is the kind of mistake I like to make, and one that is fun to correct.

On Thanksgiving morning the 6th Annual Turkey Trot was held in downtown San Jose. Earlier I heard that $140,000 was raised; however, I'm ecstatic to say the figure is actually over $416,000!

Three local charities are the beneficiaries:

  1. Second Harvest Food Bank
  2. The Children's Health Initiative of Santa Clara County
  3. The Housing Trust of Santa Clara County

Silicon Valley Turkey Trot, 2009 photoThe Silicon Valley Turkey Trot began in 2005 with 1900 registered runners and walkers, and has grown by leaps and bounds to this year's approximately 14,500 actual participants. (This photo happens to be from 2009.)

This year my daughter, son-in-law and I ran the 5K, while my husband Gene and Gary's parents walked it. It was a fun way for the family to start the day, and give back to our community at the same time. To learn more about this event, check out the web site for the Silicon Valley Turkey Trot.

For those of you living in the Silicon Valley and San Francisco Bay Area, I suggest you add this to your calendar for next year.

Hope to see you there!

Hi Lottie,

What a great way to spend the day.. and for such good causes.

I've never worked with a Realtor that specialized in Seniors, how fun! Whenever a call comes in with an elderly person they always give them to me. You must be special too! God Bless you!

Hi Roxy, thanks for your kind words. I enjoy working with Seniors--it helps me feel close to my mother, and I try to treat them with the patience and kindness she so appreciated. Good for you for helping Seniors.

Hi Lottie-That is magnificent. I am sure all the money is appreciated and will be put to great use. There are many needs out there. Great job my friend.

Sharon, I'm amazed at how little efforts can result in such huge numbers. You're right--the need is there; this is sure to help.

Lottie, It’s a date. I’ll see you there next year! $416,000 … I’d say the Turkey Trot was a huge success.

Hi Kathleen -- great, it's a date -- next Thanksgiving morning. What do you think--is $500,000 possible?
