One of a my favorite tasks leads to one of my least favorite

One of my favorite tasks leads to one of my least favorite!

pending sale 20 Sequoia Ct San Carlos 94070This week I've gotten to do one of my favorite real estate tasks -- put a "Sale Pending" rider in front of one of my listings.

Of course, this leads directly to one of my least favorite tasks--paperwork.

I've thought about handing off a file to a transaction coordinator or an assistant, but that causes more anxiety since I don't know the status of signatures, who needs what, etc. It also takes me out of the loop with my clients; and I like my clients and want to continue our direct contact.

So, my solution? Find a day when I can hole up in my home office, put background music on to help settle the brain, and just dig in. For the first hour or two chaos reigns; then order settles in.

That was Monday. Yesterday, I was re-energized, ready to move forward. Onward!

Congratulations on the pending sale!  And now it is time for the happy weekend :)

Lottie- I had a paperwork day on Wednesday when we had a lot of heavy snow.  Same thing happened last Wednesday!  Sometimes you just have to "ground" yourself.... no leaving the house until it's done!

Lottie - The yin and yang of our job...I find getting started on the paperwork is the hardest part.

That's the best part of the deal.  Getting to put up the pending sign to show the world that you have done a great job.  It pays to advertise and this is one of the best ways to get referrals from the neighborhood.  Great job Lottie.

Lottie - paperwork and taxes fall into the same category for me ..... I have a love hate relationship with them I love that both are an indicator of success but hate that both involve more paperwork for me.

Hi Jennifer - and a happy weekend it is, indeed. First time I've had no Sunday open house for many, many months!

Jen, I like an occasional day of being grounded. Hard to get started, but then momentum takes over and LOTS gets accomplished.

Norma, I agree. Getting started is the hardest, and not getting started right away makes it harder yet.

Thanks, Doug! It is nice for the neighbors to see success.

Kathy, I think you nailed it--the double-edged sword.

And a big congratulations to you, Debra. And now -- paperwork time!

Lottie,  Like you, I cannot turn tasks over to anyone for the same reason.  I want to know the status of the files and keep communication with my clients flowing.  Once we set our minds to a task … it’s done!

My favorite part is putting a for sale sign out. No wait my favorite part is seeing the smiles at closing.

Good morning Kathleen - are we control freaks, or what? There's a time to delegate, but I just can't do it with transactions.

Posted by Lottie Kendall, Helping make your real estate dreams a reality (Compass) about 7 years ago

Sussie -- you're right, best part is handing keys to the buyer, or telling the seller that their money is in the bank. Happy buyers and sellers is absolutely the best!!

Lottie,  For me, putting the for sale sign up runs a close second to the sale pending sign.  When I have a listing I fret until we get an offer.  And yes, I'm a controller and hate to get the file to a transaction coordinator.

Congrats on the sale!

Lottie - the yin and the yang of it all definetly a double edged sword one very sharp the other we keep trying to make sharper.

You're right, Marge - those are both exciting times. Thanks for your kind words.

Kathy, most of us like the variety in our jobs--I know I do--but it's hard to switch gears from the active to the detailed. Once I get into it, I love the sense of order--it's just starting!
