"Nothing Else Matters When You're Hungry"
So proclaims the billboard that grabbed my attention last week while driving down Highway 101 from San Francisco to Palo Alto. And the postcard in my office mailbox today. It's a refrain that's hard to ignore.
The need in our seemingly wealthy communities of the Mid-peninsula and Silicon Valley is great.
Did you know that 1 in 10 people in San Mateo and Santa Clara Counties receive food aid from Second Harvest Food Bank? I didn't. I had no idea the need was so acute!
Luckily our area also has many generous people who care and have the resources to try to alleviate the hunger. Food barrels are going in many businesses around our towns, and I'm happy to say that my office, Today Sotheby's International Realty, once again has barrels in the lobby, awaiting donations.
We're easy to find. Sotheby's International Realty is located at 1250 San Carlos Avenue, Suite 101, in downtown San Carlos. (Corner of San Carlos Avenue and Walnut Street.)
Why not pick up some extra canned goods on your next shopping trip and drop them off at our office? If it's easier for you, call, text or email me and I'll pick them up from your San Carlos, Belmont or Redwood City home.
Please bring non-perishables, not in glass bottles. Especially suitable are:
- Tuna, canned meats
- Meals in a can (stew, chili, soup)
- Peanut butter
- Low-sugar cereal
- 100% fruit juices
- Canned fruit, packed in juice
- Canned vegetables
- Cans with pop-top lids
Let's fill those barrels, shall we?
I'd love to see our hallway overflowing with bags of cans!
I'd love to take a picture of this year's barrels overflowing with food. I promise to share it with you all.
We can make a real difference in our community!
