The Mountain Play on Mount Tamalpais in Marin County

Having a wealth of outdoor activities near at hand is one of the benefits of living in San Francisco or elsewhere in the San Francisco bay area. One of the most beloved areas to explore is Mount Tamalpais in Marin County, just north of the Golden Gate Bridge.

Last weekend I was fortunate to have the bulk of a day free to enjoy, and a break in our recent rains. Over the bridge to Mt. Tamalpais we went, to enjoy the rain-swollen creeks and cataracts, revel in the fresh mosses and smell the redwood forest after the rains. And the views!

As we hiked through the Mountain Theatre, we could see work beginning on the staging of this year's play, The Music Man. Performance dates are May 20, 27, June 3, 10, 16 and 17 and tickets are on sale now. If you haven't experienced a day on the mountain with a few thousand happy souls, check out the video to learn what it's all about. It runs about 10 minutes, so pour a cup of tea or whatever suits, sit back, and let yourself be transported.

We've gotten our tickets for May 27, and look forward to our party-on-the-mountain day!

City living, at its best!

What a great idea for a series of blogs and great job selling your area. What a beautiful area and great sounding event. I've been to San Francisco, but for too brief of a time to see it all. You sound like you sincerely love living there and are proud to share it.

Morning Ms. Lottie back a couple of years ago I couldn't walk a mile without pain due to weight.  Now 90 pounds lighter it's no problem and I enjoy walking

Lottie I enjoyed reading your post and I agree; having a ton of outdoor activities does make an area attractive.  Mount Tamalpais sounds wonderful.

Lottie - what a beautiful view.  I bet it was so refreshing and renewing to be out enjoying all the views and scents.  Glad you got a chance to get away for a while.

Jennifer, Mt. Tam is a regional treasure, and about 30 minutes from my door.

Julie, the views are breathtaking. Being out on Mt. Tam and the Marin Headlands for even 1 short day, and I feel refreshed and renewed as though I had been on vacation for a week.
