FAQ #3: If I buy a home, will my child go to the neighborhood school?

FAQ: If we buy this home, will my child go to the neighborhood school?

Due to burgeoning enrollments in many San Mateo County and Silicon Valley public schools, many local districts are unable to guarantee that incoming students will be admitted to schools closest to family homes.
The school districts are, however, required to place students in schools within the district.

Because schools are important to many people when buying homes, buyers are always advised to consult directly with the appropriate school district office to determine the availability of classroom space in the neighborhood of interest.

Some of our local school districts in San Mateo County can be reached via the following links:

It is sad that the schools cannot guarantee who will go to the school.

It is always important as part of our jobs to provide all the resources or refer the parents to the right agency to find out which school their children to go to.

We have to have them call transportation...they change them so often!

This is true in some Texas areas too. A buyer will need to check with the local school district to make sure the home they are buying is assigned to the school they want their child to go to.

Hi Tim -- fluctuation in school enrollment make guaranteeing placement in a specific school next to impossible for many school districts.

Good morning, Morgan - agreed; I give a list of school district contacts to my buyers and have them verify which school their child is likely to attend.

Cindy, our school boundaries change rarely, but availability in a particular school does fluctuate. No guarantees!

Sussie, even when a home is assigned to a certain school, there's no guarantee of space. What is guaranteed here is that schooling will be available in the school district.
