CitiScape Property Management Group in San Francisco has provided clear, concise information about carbon monoxide devices. Carbon Monoxide is a clear, odorless gas, but one that can be detected by monitors. It does not replace a smoke detector!
As many (but still not all) Californian's know, in July 2011 Senate Bill 183 was passed, requirement all single-family homes with an attached garage or a fossil fuel source to install carbon monixide alarms by July 1, 2011. As of January 1, 2013, this law also applies to owners of multi-family leased or rental dwellings.
It is simple to comply with the law, and your safety might depend upon it.
If you would like a copy of the FAQ sheet CitiScape provided condo owners of properties they manage, please send me a note, with your email address, and I'll pass it on to you.

I don't think it's a law to install them in my area, but I think it's a great safety precaution.
Lottie - A lot of people don't know about this law. It's cheap and easy to comply. For around $20 you can keep you and your family safe from Carbon Monoxide poisoning.
Hi Roger - it's even easier to install a CO monitor than a smoke detector--many models plug into an outlet!
Jim, you're right! Inexpensive, easy (plug into an outlet!) and readily available at a hardware or 'big box' store.
