The vote is in - your favorite patriotic song is ....

I hope you wind up this Independence Day weekend feeling

refreshed and happy!

flag flying high on the Fourth of July(July 4th, in San Francisco near Corona Heights Park)

Music makes me happy, and I found myself humming a number of tunes on July 4, so I posted a survey asking which patriotic song was your favorite.

The votes have been cast, and we have:

  1. America the Beautiful - 50% of votes
  2. Star Spangled Banner - 33.34%
  3. You're a Grand Old Flag - 8.33%
  4. My Country 'Tis of Thee - 0
  5. and a write-in: God Bless America -8.33%

As I drive down the freeway today on my way to host my open house, I'll be singing these, and I hope you find yourselves doing the same as we wrap up this special weekend.

--- Come for a visit; Stay for a lifetime!

Lottie, Enjoy this blessed and beautiful day.  I wish you all the best at your open house. It looks like the weather will be tolerable today.

Lottie thanks, I thought what was mine before scrolling down and God Bless the USA by  Lee Greenwood was the one for me. Thinking about 9-11 and how it made me feel to hear that song. It made feel so proud to be an American and of our great nation.

Lottie

American the Beautiful is an emotional song.

Good luck and success.

America the Beautiful is a beautiful song. Still recall a day in my 3rd grade class when Sr. Adrienne passed out the music sheets and this song was on it. As the class and I sang it,  I looked out the classroom's large, small-pane windows and felt a tug on my soul.

I love them all but my #1 choice would be America the Beautiful. It makes me stop and listen.

Hi Lottie,

i think the most patriotic song is Ray Charles version of America. It moves me EVERY time I hear it.

Hi Lottie, I'm sorry I didn't get my vote in to be counted. A song that I heard on the the 4th and has been in my head every since is God Bless The USA by Lee Greenwood. The lyrics just keep floating around and I find myself singing the same couple of stanzas.

And I'm proud to be an American,
where at least I know I'm free.
And I wont forget the men who died,
who gave that right to me.

And I gladly stand up,
next to you and defend her still today.
‘Cause there ain't no doubt I love this land,
God bless the USA.

Kathleen, the open house was great; hard to predict on a holiday weekend, but 16 groups through a condo is good; 3 disclosure packages have been downloaded.

Ted, you're not the only one who mentioned that song; it's a great one.

Lou, America the Beautiful conjures up some powerful images.

Hi Sharon, God Bless the USA might have been the "winner' if I had given that as an option.

Jane, what a powerful memory you have of that lovely song!

Martha, that's my choice, too.

Hello Zuhls! I'll have to head to YouTube to see if I can find that version.

Nancy, God Bless the USA is a powerful song, indeed.

Lottie, what a neat idea to poll everyone. The Star-Spangled Banner is it for me!

Hi Lottie: I may be too late for this article but the information provided is still interesting. "America, The Beautiful." Indeed.

Suzanne, next to Christmas, I think we have more songs fitting for July 4 than any other holiday.

Maria, so many good songs to enjoy!

Each of these songs have a special meaning for me, each brings a tear or two, as I never take their meaning for granted.

Thank you for commenting on my post.

Joe, they're all great songs--along with some mentioned by other commenters.

Mike, all these songs are winners in my book!

Joan, I had fun with this! Glad you did, too.

I prefer America, the Beautiful as well, Lottie.  It has less war-mongering connotations!
