Is there a danger to living where you do?

How do you know it's time for some body work?  (I'm not talking about dents in the car!) For me, it's when my knees cry out, telling me I've done too many stairs in one week!

On Monday evening, we hiked down and up staircases to Marshall Beach in San Francisco.

stairs to Marshall Beach

On Tuesday evening, a hike at Windy Hill on the Peninsula (no stairs to speak of)

Wednesday--a bare 30 minute walk running errands--no stairs!

Thursday evening's City hike took us up and down numerous staircases in Lafayette Park, Alta Plaza, and then these, the Baker Street Stairs - 201 of them!

Baker Street stairs

Friday another no-stair outing, just a 30 minute walk to the Kabuki Theater to see Robert Redford's movie, "A Walk in the Woods," then 30 minutes home.

Saturday a colleague and I hiked from my listing in the Belmont hills where I had met the appraiser, along an easement trail to the Cross Country running course, down to Pulgas Water Temple -- and then back up the hill

Today we hiked 8.5 miles on a slopes of beautiful Mt. Tamalpais, down the Steep Ravine Trail (hundreds of steps, including this ladder) to Stinson Beach, then up the Matt Davis trail (many hundred more stairs) and finally up to our car, an elevation loss and gain of 1900'.

Tomorrow afternoon I'll be seeing a great massage therapist who does wonders for my knees, Mila and Atlas Massage.

There's a danger to living and working in our part of the world -- it's hard to pass up great hiking opportunities!

--- Come for a visit; Stay for a lifetime!

201 stairs sounds like a workout Lottie! :)  Living in flat-as-a-pancake Houston, TX--we don't have many exterior stairs...

Wow Lottie-I can understand why your knees are screaming. My whole body would be screaming if I did even one of those set of stairs. Amazing woman you are.  I love that view. I will visit San Franciso one day as I had a postcard years ago from there of the crookiest street in San Franciso.

Good Monday morning Lottie. I can understand the reason your knees would be screaming. Too many stairs takes its toll on mine as well.

Good morning Lottie. You are amazing, even though I exercise 5 days a week, I don't do the kind of hiking that you do. Love hearing about your adventures.

I would not be able to do all that hiking. Thank you for the photos.

Those stairs will keep you in shape but I don't think my old knees could handle them.

Awesome invitation, Lottie Kendall As I have commented many times your areas on my bucket list for hikes not just tourist sites. Enjoy your massage.

The only major danger here is the heat. You have to be very careful during certain parts of the year when you go hiking or even when you step foot outside. Heat stroke can come at you fast here!

Lottie,

If you are looking for stairs with a change of scenery, come climb the “Incline” in Colorado Springs.

Lottie - I would say if you did all of that you should not worry about body work.  I am not sure I could keep up.

The walking in and around San Francisco is outstanding . . . . and well worth the effort to enjoy the walk.

Good luck and success.

So awesome that you got so much hiking in!  There's a big danger to living down here, too --- between the mountains and the ocean, adventure is always calling : )

Lottie, you have been doing LOTS of stairs, and are healthier because of it.  Sorry your knees are screaming, and hope the massage does its wonders!

That is indeed quite a workout. I played football in Highschool and basketball in college did a lot of damage to my knees so as I get older stairs are less fun.
