Alice's Restaurant, a landmark in San Mateo County

Alice's Restaurant is a landmark in San Mateo County.

Located at the junction of Highway 35 (Skyline Boulevard) and Highway 84 (Woodside-La Honda Road) at the area known as Sky Londa, Alice's Restaurant is the iconic spot for motorcyclists, intrepid bicyclists, hikers, road-trippers and neighbors to meet and greet while enjoying the food and casual ambiance.

Set in a clearing with towering Coast Redwoods nearby, it's a scenic, fun destination after a day's outdoor adventure. For pictures of Alice's Restaurant, check out the web site

The picture below gives a feel for a bit of Sky Londa's mountainous beauty, and that it is, indeed, home to some, not far from to the Pacific Ocean to the west and the Silicon Valley and bay side towns to the east.

It has been years since I've been there.  I cannot even remember how long it has been.

Those mailboxes, dressed up with blooming forget-me-nots underneath, remind us that alternatives to suburban living are all around us, even near the Silicon Valley. I'm glad you enjoy them and the web site for the restaurant, Mary Yonkers

Keep Alice's Restaurant in mind, Kathleen Daniels - some day when you head to your favorite beach, stop in for lunch or dinner. Fun ambiance.

What do you know, Lottie! I knew there was a "real" Alice's Restaurant but I did not know how close it is to San Francisco. Just down the road a piece from Half Moon Bay. I did not know. Will have to go there. Thank you!!!

I was fortunate to see Arlo Guthrie perform this song at an outdoor concert twenty years ago.

Alice's sounds like a fun place to visit, and the picture of the mailboxes is fantastic!

Alice's Restaurant is good, casual fun in a redwood tree setting. I think you'd enjoy the experience, Elizabeth Weintraub Sacramento Real Estate Agent, Top 1% of Lyon Agents

I bet Arlo Guthrie put on a great show, Lisa Friedman . Many people thought this restaurant was the subject of his song, but it wasn't.

Hi Bob Crane - your comment made me smile; there are so many fun, funky, quirky, beautiful places to see and things to do in this area--you had better plan a lengthy stay!

Hi Dana Tapia & Lisa Pigott - the mailboxes epitomize to me the funky, quirky settlement of Sky Londa, so close to the hustle bustle of Silicon Valley and San Francisco, yet so far apart in feel.

Thanks. I thought about inserting that in the blog post Bob Crane , but the song wasn't written about this Alice's Restaurant. Many people around here think it was, though.

I did not know that, I bet that a lot of people think that it is too

Good morning Lottie Kendall . It is an interesting array of mailboxes. It seems as if there was a movie or something to do with Alice's Restaurant or am I delusional?

I love this picture however I don't think of that as being in or near Silicon Valley. I do enjoy quirky neighborhoods Lottie Kendall

You're not delusional, Michael - there was a song and a movie too called Alice's Restaurant (different restaurant, however.) TeamCHI - Complete Home Inspections, Inc.

That's what makes it so fun, Paul S. Henderson, REALTOR®, Broker, Tacoma Washington - Sky Londa is so close to Silicon Valley, yet so far away in feel and spirit.

Hi Sheila Anderson and Gita Bantwal - Alice's Restaurant is a kick; a refreshing spot in which to relax and recharge body and soul.

You're right, Joan Cox - a bit of country in the midst of the hubbub of Silicon Valley and the world of freeways.
